I dream of being seaside with "Discover America" blaring out of a boombox. Only Van Dykes Parks could get away with doing a Calypso album littered with references to U.S. history. And oddly enough it's the appropriation of Calypso that makes it about a million times more American than any saccharine ballad performed by a pop singer in front of a flag. -jva
